Pilot training followed and then twenty years of flying assignments in a Cold War world. Nothing was certain except the constant threat of hot war. The closest I got to that was a tour in Vietnam...a non-war in the eyes of the American people. A tour in Japan included Air Rescue work in support of Americas keeping her eye on potential threats by cold war opponents. Flying an unarmed aircraft in proximity to potential enemy forces was not the most comfortable experience. Several tours working in the Pentagon gave me an in-depth knowledge of the importance of a strong military force and how difficult it is to achieve and maintain that strength while depending on elected politicians to bring it about.
